Cloth paintings were produced for religious rituals, to be displayed at certain festivals. At the northern tip of the country, in Ladakh, where Tibetan Buddhism flourishes, and in parts of Himachal Pradesh, where Tibetan refugees have settled, thangkas are painted on cloth, often showing the Buddha and the Wheel of Life.
