 Maccha Tarkari (Fish Curry) 
Ingredients
  • 1/2 kg Fish
  • 6 medium Onions
  • 2 medium Potatoes
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 3 Bay leaves
  • 2 teaspoon Cumin seed powder
  • 3 inches Ginger
  • 10 Garlic cloves
  • 3 Red chillies
Method
Grind 5 onions, garlic, ginger and red chillies to a fine paste. Rub the fish with salt and turmeric powder, shallow fry till evenly cooked. Chop the remaining onion into thin slices. Finely chop the tomato. Chop the potatoes into fingers.

Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan, add the sliced onions and fry till they turn light brown. Add bayleaves and cumin powder. Saute for a minute. Add the onion paste and saute till oil leaves the sides of the pan. Add the chopped tomato and fry till the tomato is pulpy. Add the potato fingers and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add ½ cup water and let the potatoes cook. When the potatoes are 3/4th cooked, add the fish. Add water if required. Simmer and cook on a low flame for 15 minutes or till completely cooked.
