Dal Fry
Ingredients
  • 1 cup Toovar dal
  • 2 1/2 cups Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 3 tablespoons Oil
  • 3/4 cup Chopped onions
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped green chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 cup Chopped tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup Chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt (As per taste)
Method
Wash and soak the dal in 2 1/2 cups of water for about 30 mintues. Pressure cook till the dal is done. Cook uncovered further on a medium flame for 2 mintues. Do not mash the dal.

Heat oil in a small pan, add the chopped onion, garlic, ginger, green chillies and cumin seeds. Fry on a medium flame for about 3-4 mintues, stirring often. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt, and chopped tomatoes and fry on a high flame for 3 minutes. Add into the cooked dal and mix well.

Serves : 4 Time : 40 mins.
