Born in 1861, in Ahiyapura to Pandit Vrajanath and mother Moonadevi. He went to school in Ahiyapura run by Pandit Haradeva, called 'Dharmagnanopadesha Pathashala'. He was then a student of the Muir Central College and there after got married to Kundana Devi.
His life as a freedom fighter started under Dadabhai Naoroji. He is known as Teacher of the Nation as he was the founder of Beneras Hindu University.
