The Tragedy of Karbala

In 680 CE, Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, along with 72 companions and family members, was martyred at Karbala (in present-day Iraq) while standing against the tyranny of Yazid's rule.

The Battle of Karbala became a defining moment in Islamic history, symbolizing the eternal struggle between righteousness and oppression, truth and falsehood. Imam Hussain's sacrifice continues to inspire millions worldwide.

In India, Muharram observances have developed unique cultural traditions, with Hindus and Muslims often participating together in processions and commemorations, reflecting the country's tradition of communal harmony.
