Top of the World
Khardung La, at 5,359 meters above sea level, is often claimed as the highest motorable pass in the world. Whether or not this claim is accurate, the experience of reaching this point is nothing short of extraordinary.
The pass serves as a critical gateway to the Siachen Glacier, the highest battleground on Earth, and is maintained by the Indian Army's Border Roads Organisation. Prayer flags flutter in the thin air, and on clear days, the panoramic views of the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges are breathtaking.
Crossing Khardung La is a rite of passage for adventurers, motorcyclists, and travelers seeking to test their limits. The journey from Leh takes about 2 hours, but the memories last a lifetime.
