Blue Pottery is a distinctive Jaipur craft that traces its origins to Persia, brought to India via the Mughal courts. Unlike conventional pottery, it contains no clay - instead using quartz stone powder, powdered glass, and multani mitti (Fuller's earth) to create its unique translucent quality.

The craft nearly vanished in the 19th century but was revived by Kripal Singh Shekhawat in the mid-20th century. He developed techniques that made the pottery more durable while preserving its distinctive aesthetic, earning Jaipur its reputation as the blue pottery capital of India.

The signature cobalt blue color comes from oxide of cobalt, while the white background uses zinc oxide. Floral patterns, Persian geometric designs, and animal motifs are hand-painted before the piece is fired at low temperatures, giving it a unique matte finish.
